Overview
Status: active animal-testing and release campaign.
Marshall BioResources in New York breeds animals for research. Animal-protection groups are campaigning against the operation, and a 207-mile September 2026 March to Abolish Animal Testing ended at Marshall’s facility. Advocacy organizations report that many thousands of beagles are held there; exact current animal numbers should be treated as source-dependent and updated from inspections or other primary records.
Could the animals be bought out?
Potentially, but only through a negotiated agreement with the legal owner. The Ridglan Farms outcome demonstrates that negotiated purchases/transfers can remove large numbers of beagles from a research supplier. A Marshall campaign should therefore pursue a concrete negotiation track rather than assuming petitions alone will close the facility.
Seek a written willingness-to-transfer framework before raising acquisition money.
Build a coalition of rescues capable of intake at scale.
Raise restricted funds for purchase/transfer only if it advances a genuine reduction or closure rather than financing replacement breeding.
Separately fund transport, veterinary care, foster placement and adoption.
Track legislation, inspections and regulatory action in parallel.
